Apprenticeship Information Pilot Project

The Jail Industries Board "Apprenticeship Information Project" is a pilot project partnering the WA State Department of Labor and Industries - Specialty Compliance Apprenticeship Section, the WA State Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Office of Trade & Economic Development with a grant funded by the WA State Employment Security Department - Employment & Training Division.

Information is provided to offenders in six targeted city and county jails located in King, Pierce & Snohomish counties about the WA State Approved Apprenticeship Training Programs with a special focus on the building trades. Barriers and skill deficits, which may prevent acceptance into apprenticeship programs, are identified.

Information about this project is provided to the judiciary system, apprenticeship community and other ancillary service providers.

The ultimate goal is to link ex-offenders to Apprenticeship Opportunities through informational presentations, educational Apprenticeship Preparation Programs and other support services; and to assist individuals by identifying service providers in their geographical area that can help them overcome barriers that may prevent them from getting accepted into an apprenticeship program.
